Unlocking the Secrets of the Bagua

By Benjamin James on February 17, 2009
What is the Bagua?

Put simply, the Bagua is a kind of Feng Shui map. It is the essential tool used to analyze any space, inside or out, including homes, offices, or plots of land. As you can see on the opposite page, it is an octagonal-shaped figure divided into nine areas or "Gua" - that's eight areas of a space, plus its center.

Each Gua reflects a certain area of your life. There is a Gua to indicate the following areas: Prosperity, Future, Relationships, Creativity, Helpful People, Work, Knowledge, Family, and Health.  You use the Bagua map to find out which areas of each room or of an entire space relate to the different areas of your life.

Positioning the Bagua

By Benjamin James on February 17, 2009
There are three essential steps to take before throwing the Bagua and tapping into the ancient wisdom of Feng Shui.

STEP 1:
First, you must draw a plan of each floor of your home or other space on a piece of paper the same size as your Bagua.  If you find the Bagua I have enclosed is not large enough for the plan, feel free to draw your own Bagua to the size of your floor plans.

The plan should illustrate the location of all permanent structures such as walls, doors, windows, staircases, and fireplaces. Your plan doesn't have to be a masterpiece; it should just give you a clear idea where everything is positioned.

Positioning the Bagua for Rooms

By Benjamin James on February 17, 2009
After you have thrown the Bagua for each floor of your home, you will want to throw it for every main room like the living room, bedrooms, and kitchen.

You can also position the Bagua for a family room, den, foyers, hallways, bathrooms, laundry room, or any small space.  (But these spaces are less important.)  This way you can analyze each room as to what in the room affects your happiness in different areas of your life.
