There are three essential steps to take before throwing the Bagua and tapping into the ancient wisdom of Feng Shui.
STEP 1: First, you must draw a plan of each floor of your home or other space on a piece of paper the same size as your Bagua. If you find the Bagua I have enclosed is not large enough for the plan, feel free to draw your own Bagua to the size of your floor plans.
The plan should illustrate the location of all permanent structures such as walls, doors, windows, staircases, and fireplaces. Your plan doesn't have to be a masterpiece; it should just give you a clear idea where everything is positioned.
STEP 2: After drawing your plan, you should decide which is the most commonly used entrance to your home. If you have more than one level in your home, draw a floor plan of each and determine the most commonly used entrance for each level. For example, it could be the entry from your garage, your back door, the kitchen door... it doesn't have to be your front door! Choose the entrance that gets the most use from the people who live in your home. If two entrances get an equal amount of use, select the entrance that the head of the household uses most.
STEP 3: After selecting the entrance, mark it on your floor plan with an arrow pointing inward at the direction of entry. Look at the image below. The door to the garage is the most commonly used entrance in this example. Draw an arrow pointing inward at the direction of entry.

Then, turn your plan, as in Example B below, so that the arrow you have drawn points away from you as you hold it. See the image below.
Make sure that the arrow points away from you as you hold the plan. You should stand facing the direction of the arrow as it points inward toward the direction of entry.
STEP 4: Now position your Bagua over your floor plan so that the Knowledge, Work, and Helpful People Areas are aligned with the wall that holds the most commonly used entrance, as shown below. Note: You do not choose which area of the Bagua to place on the entryway, You will discover what it is when you position your Bagua.

In the example above, the most commonly used entrance falls in the Work Area in the garage. Please draw an arrow pointing into the house in the direction of entry in the garage; the kitchen is in the Family Area; the living room is in the Creativity Area and the dining room in the Prosperity Area.
Following, you will find examples of the most commonly used entrance located in the Helpful People and Knowledge Areas, respectively.
In this example below, the most commonly used entrance is located in the "helpful People" area, the backdoor. Please draw an arrow pointing inward in the direction of entry.

In the example below, the most commonly used entrance is located in the "knowledge area", in the front door. Please draw an arrow pointing inward in the direction of entry.

AREA COVERAGE Each Bagua area covers a certain space on your floor plan. Once you've determined each area, note, as on the sketch below, the total space each area encompasses on your plan.
For practical purposes on your floor plan, divide your space into nine sections as shown below to see what is covered by each area.

Here are some more examples of what your floor plan with the Bagua laid over it could look like.
