Helpful Hints About Water

Distilled Water One form of purified water that you can buy is distilled water, which has been steamed so all of the impurities and minerals are removed. This, too, can also leave water tasting flat. You can find gallon containers of distilled water sold either with the other water in the market or sometimes near the ironing supplies, as it used to be required for all steam irons. Distilled water won’t leave any mineral buildup in the iron.
Bottled Water One solution to getting a purer form of water is to buy bottled water. If you do use bottled water, make sure it is from a reputable supplier, not just bottled from a city water supply – read the label for the source. The downside to using bottled water, aside from the expense, is the health controversy surrounding the plastic of the bottles. And this does not even take into account that plastic is not biodegradable and will be around forever polluting the planet.
We read and hear so much about cancer-causing chemicals being released into the water from the clear plastic bottle if the bottle has been opened and standing around for a while, or left in a hot car, or even from an old unopened bottle not necessarily subjected to heat. Some sources say this is not true, and others say it is. To be on the safe side, I purchased a plastic bottle that claims to be safe as well as a high quality water filter for my kitchen sink and showerhead.
The only truly safe water container is glass, but it’s not a good idea to take a glass container to the gym or elsewhere, as that would create breaking -glass safety issues of its own. However, at home I store my filtered-sink water in glass bottles and refill them once a day. The filter causes the water to flow too slowly for my impatient self to use it every time I need a drink or want to fill a pot for cooking.
Water Filters There are many good water filters on the market that you can get. They range from the simplest self-contained, but usually in a plastic container, to more mechanically involved that fit on faucets or that can take care of the entire water supply in your home. If you are interested, do your research carefully to check out what the filter guarantees it will take out of the water – there’s lots of stuff in tap water that you might not want to be drinking or bathing in, even though it is technically safe to do so.
