Helpful Hints About Parsley
Important: Don’t Take Parsley If You’re Pregnant! Parsley could be very dangerous if eaten excessively during pregnancy. It contains two substances, apiol and myristicin, that can stimulate uterine contractions. At one time, capsules of parsley were used to induce abortion. In Russia, a product called “Supetin,” made of 85% parsley juice, is used to increase contractions during labor. How much parsley constitutes a danger? It probably varies with the individual, but it’s best to not take any chances. Play it safe by avoiding parsley altogether until your baby is born.
It’s Not for the Birds If you have a bird for a pet, or feed the wild birds outside, don’t include parsley in their seed, as it is poisonous to many birds.
