About Tea

A Royal Drink
Commoners and kings alike have enjoyed tea throughout the centuries.  Whether it’s a bracing blend at breakfast or an herbal mix at bedtime, I consider a hot cup of tea to be one of life’s greatest pleasures.  Of course, there’s nothing quite so refreshing as a tall glass of iced tea flavored with mint for those hazy summer days!

And while tea is undeniably a wonderful form of refreshment, it also has many therapeutic qualities.  So the next time you’re thirsting for something soothing and delicious, go ahead and brew some tea.  It’s a drink fit for a king!

Green Tea
These teas are processed by lightly drying the leaves.  Some are loose whole-leaf, while others such as Chinese “gunpowder” are made from leaves rolled into little balls. Japanese “matcha” is powdered green tea.  Green tea is the least processed of the various teas and contains the most health benefits. Vitamin K is present in green tea.

Black Teas
These dark teas are made by allowing the fresh green leaves to wither and darken.  This fermentation process takes about a day, after which the leaves are dried by warm air.  Black teas include Keemun and Lapsang souchong from China, Ceylon tea from Sri Lanka and Assam and Darjeeling from India.

Oolong Teas
These teas are made from whole leaves that are partly withered and oxidized, something of a cross between green and black tea.

I would like to introduce fresh lemon grass tea to you. You can buy it at the asian stores. It comes as a stalk. Just peel away the outer stalks and boil it in water and enjoy. I have a really bad case of gout and I have been gout free since I started drinking it. It tastes really good and is so inexpensive. I am attaching the health benefits. Enjoy!

I am an iced tea drinker using artificial sweetener & lime (learned that in Mexico!). While I was in Australia for 4 months, I drank gallons of hot tea with splenda and milk...it was calming at night and an energy boost when needed during the day. My friends are flying over in November and we are headed to Texas (from Cali) on a road trip. Guess what we are going to have? A 2 qt thermos full of hot water and 4 travel mugs for our road trip hot tea breaks!

I've heard that adding milk with tea (my favorite way to drink it) can interfere with the tannons and other healthy properities. Truth or myth?
